Blackbeard Carved Wood Flag 38x21

Featuring a hand chiseled horned skeleton holding an hourglass and spearing a bleeding heart, along with an upraised sword. The flag is commonly referred to as the “Jolly Roger.” This iconic symbol was used to strike fear into the hearts of Blackbeard’s victims during his plundering days in the early 18th century. 

Blackbeard’s real name was Edward Teach, although he is also known as Edward Thatch or Edward Drummond. He was believed to have been born around 1680 in Bristol, England, although his exact birthdate and early life are not well-documented. Blackbeard became one of the most feared pirates of his time, operating in the West Indies and along the eastern coast of the American colonies. He was known for his fierce appearance, often tying slow-burning fuses into his beard during battles to create a smoky, intimidating effect.
Blackbeard’s flagship was a modified French merchant vessel called the Queen Anne’s Revenge, which he captured and outfitted with cannons for piracy. In 1718, Blackbeard was killed during a battle with British naval forces led by Lieutenant Robert Maynard off the coast of North Carolina. Maynard’s forces managed to kill Blackbeard after a fierce fight, and his head was reportedly hung from the bow of Maynard’s ship as proof of his demise.
Blackbeard’s legend has endured through various accounts, stories, and depictions in popular culture, making him one of the most iconic figures in pirate history.
